Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention advocacy group in the country, is seeking an attorney to lead the Legal team’s efforts to implement critical gun laws and push forward life-saving executive and regulatory action. The Legal team works to advance Everytown's mission by improving gun laws and regulations in all 50 states and at the federal level, generating groundbreaking original research, and contributing to the organization’s position as a thought leader in the gun safety movement. This new role will have a special emphasis on maximizing implementation of gun laws, guiding executives – along with courts and law enforcement – on how to make the most robust use of the policies Everytown fights for.  The role will also focus on designing action for governors, attorneys general, mayors, and federal agencies. You will work directly to help program our policy attorneys who lead the Legal team across different regions of the country, and will partner with researchers, community violence intervention specialists, and campaign experts in our broader Law and Policy departments to incubate and build new non-legislative gun violence prevention ideas.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Taking a leading role in developing and programming our non-legislative agenda, particularly at the state and local level.
  • Designing our efforts to maximize implementation of core GVP policies, such as extreme risk protection orders and gun removal for domestic abusers
  • Guiding work by our team of lawyers to advise executives on how to turn advocacy into tangible action, including direct contact with governors, mayors, attorneys general, and other executive offices, along with courts and law enforcement officials.
  • Partnering with Law and Policy colleagues on Research, Community Safety Initiatives, State Affairs, and Local Affairs teams, along with litigators and federal policy teams
  • Drafting public-facing materials, regulations, model policies and best practice documents, and executive orders to carry out gun safety laws
  • Representing the organization before executive officials, legislative bodies, the media, and in other public forums

The annualized salary for this position is $110,000+, higher with exceptional relevant experience. Everytown offers a generous package including Medical, Vision, and Dental, paid time off, 401K Match, Education Assistance and more.
